Dear Glenmeadows School Families,
¡Bienvenidos! / Welcome back! We are so excited to begin another wonderful school year together!
Over the past three days, our staff have worked with enthusiasm and purpose to prepare our school for our students' arrival. Classrooms are coming to life, learning spaces have been carefully prepared, and teachers have been reviewing student information, planning meaningful learning experiences, strengthening safety protocols, and preparing for a successful first semester.
Most importantly, we have been thinking about your children—their strengths, their needs, their interests, and how we can create a school environment where every student feels safe, cared for, known, challenged, and excited to learn.
📚 Supporting Student Learning
This fall, the Calgary Board of Education has welcomed hundreds of new teachers, education assistants, and other school staff. These additional positions have been supported through Government of Alberta funding, with the goal of responding to classroom complexity and class-size needs.
At Glenmeadows, this additional staffing means we can provide students with:
- More opportunities for teacher attention and support
- Positive and focused classroom learning environments
- Additional support for diverse learning needs
- Smaller class groupings in key areas
- More opportunities for students to be known, supported, and successful

🌟 Welcoming New Members to Our Glenmeadows Family
We are thrilled to welcome several wonderful additions to our school community this year!
- Samantha Thibault is returning to Glenmeadows following maternity leave and will be teaching in our additional Kindergarten class, made possible through the Provincial Class Size Initiative funding.
- Flor Garibay, who taught with us on a Kindergarten contract last year, will be joining our team as the teacher of our additional Grade 1 class.
- Jenna Turner joins us as our new Grade 3 teacher. We are delighted to have Jenna join our teaching team! Jenna was our Grade 3 practicum student teacher last school year.
- Marian Navarro joins us as a Spanish Visiting Teacher. While substituting across CBE schools, Marian will be based at Glenmeadows and will be an important part of our Spanish bilingual community.
- Luis Delgado joins us as our Grade 6 Student Teacher and will be working alongside Sra. Fenske for the next couple of months. We are excited to support Luis as he continues his journey into the teaching profession.
We are very fortunate to welcome such talented educators and future educators to Glenmeadows. Please join us in giving them a very warm ¡Bienvenidos!
We know that strong relationships are at the heart of learning. Our goal is not simply for students to attend school each day, but to ensure they belong, participate, grow, and thrive.

We are also looking forward to the many opportunities we have to come together as a school community.
We hope to see you at the Glenmeadows BBQ, organized by our wonderful School Council/Society. It will be a great opportunity for students, families, and staff to reconnect, enjoy some food and activities, share some laughs, and build the relationships that make Glenmeadows such a special place.
We are also excited for our Meet the Teacher on Thursday, September 24 in the evening and Friday, September 25 in the morning. We will share more information and booking details soon.
📚 Important Information for a Successful School Year
By the end of today, your child’s teacher will share a short, informative PowerPoint highlighting key information to help families navigate the school year successfully. Topics will include:
- Ongoing Communication – How we will keep families informed and connected throughout the year
- Attendance – The importance of regular, punctual attendance and how to communicate absences
- Assessment & Learning – How we monitor, celebrate, and communicate your child’s learning and progress
- Homework – Expectations and ways families can support learning at home
- Important Dates & Events – Key school activities, celebrations, concerts, and upcoming dates
- Technology – Expectations for the safe, responsible, and purposeful use of technology
- Behaviour & School Expectations – Our shared commitment to respectful, responsible, and caring behaviour
Students will review this information with their teachers in class, and we encourage families to take a few minutes to review the PowerPoint together at home. Being familiar with these expectations and routines will help us begin the year with clarity, consistency, and a strong partnership between home and school.

VOLUNTEERING
If you are interested in volunteering at Glenmeadows, you must fill out an Annual Volunteer Form (found in your MyCBE account under Online Registration and Forms) and have a valid police clearance. Police clearances are valid for 5 years. If you're not sure if yours is still valid, please contact the school. If you do not have a current police clearance, an email will be sent to you with instructions after you fill out the annual volunteer form (please note, this email may take some time as the office is very busy at the beginning of the school year).
