Our Programs

Regular Program at the CBE

Even though most of our schools offer a regular program, no two are quite the same. All schools teach according to Alberta Education’s mandated curriculum, however a school’s focus, optional courses and school activities are as unique as every school.

International Spanish Academy

¿Quiénes somos? Our school is an International Spanish Academy! The International Spanish Academy program is an educational initiative of the Ministry of Education of Spain that complements the Calgary Board of Education's vibrant Spanish Bilingual Program by connecting schools from across Alberta and the United States. It provides students with opportunities to acquire and maintain language skills in Spanish and English and develop global citizenship through rich intercultural encounters.

Organization

Teaming: While students are part of a classroom grouping, each grade team will have a shared responsibility for all of the students in the team. This allows for flexible groupings so that at times, children may come together from different classrooms to work in flexible groups on specific assignments or projects.

Homework

The CBE promotes the development of good study habits. Two kinds of study include the completion of assignments and the informal study of topics being studied in class.Grade 1 and 2: Some formal assignments may be given. In addition, 5 to 10 minutes of systematic study per night is recommended. This will include daily reading.Grade 3 to 6: Formal assignments are more typical in Grade 5 & 6. Check with your child’s teacher to determine curriculum and classroom expectations.
