SABES QUE June 5, 2026
Desde el lunes a Jueves/From Monday to Thursday, our Grade 6 students attended Outdoor School at Camp Chief Hector in Kananaskis. Despite the rainy weather on Monday and Tuesday, students fully embraced the experience and demonstrated remarkable resilience, adaptability, and enthusiasm. Throughout the week, they engaged in activities that deepened their understanding of the natural environment while developing important life skills such as collaboration, problem-solving, leadership, and perseverance.
Uno/One of the greatest benefits of Outdoor School is its contribution to students’ social-emotional development. Some students were initially uncertain about their ability to complete certain more challenging activities and hikes. However, with encouragement from their peers, camp staff, and teachers, they pushed beyond their comfort zones, discovered new strengths, and experienced the pride that comes from accomplishing difficult tasks. These experiences help students build confidence, independence, and a growth mindset—skills that will serve them well throughout their educational journey.
Escuela al aire libre/Outdoor School also offers Grade 6 students a meaningful opportunity to celebrate the completion of their elementary school years together. New friendships were formed, existing ones strengthened, and memories created that students will carry with them for years to come. Sra. Styles and I are incredibly proud of our students and grateful for the positive learning experiences they embraced throughout the week. We are already hearing excitement from our current Grade 5 students as they listen to the stories and adventures shared by this year’s Grade 6 class.
El gobierno de Alberta/The Government of Alberta has made a significant commitment to reducing class sizes in elementary schools and has provided funding to support this initiative. After reviewing enrollment for the 2026/27 school year, student needs, and school-specific considerations across the province, funding for our school has been allocated to reduce class sizes within our Kindergarten program.
Con estos fondos/With this funding, we will be able to open an additional afternoon Kindergarten class. Due to space limitations within the school, we are unable to add a third morning Kindergarten classroom; however, the additional class will reduce average class sizes from approximately 25 students to 18–19 students per class. Smaller class sizes allow teachers to provide more individualized support, increase opportunities for student participation, and strengthen relationships that contribute to student success. On Monday, families of incoming Kindergarten students will receive a survey asking whether they would be willing to move from the morning program to the afternoon program. We appreciate the flexibility and support of our families as we work together to maximize the benefits of this opportunity for our youngest learners.
A medida que nos acercamos/As we approach the end of the school year, teachers are carefully reviewing evidence of student learning and academic data to determine final achievement levels. Using a strong body of evidence collected throughout the year, teachers will provide an accurate reflection of each student's progress in relation to the Alberta Programs of Study. June report cards will include achievement information and personalized comments in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Spanish. Teachers will also provide comments related to one additional area of achievement. These comments will celebrate each student's strengths while identifying areas for continued growth and learning. We encourage families to review report cards together and celebrate the many accomplishments students have achieved throughout the school year.
Tengan un lindo fin de semana/Have a great beautiful weekend!

FALL 2026 CASINO VOLUNTEERS REQUIRED - NOV 7 & 8
Every two years, Escuela Glenmeadows is granted a casino fundraising night! Our next one is slated for Q4 of 2026. The funds earned from this event support a variety of programs for the students at Glenmeadows. We use the money for: residencies, equipment for sports, arts, STEM, AV equipment, a new gaga ball pit, and so much more! The goal of the casino fundraiser is to offer our kids additional learning opportunities and subsidies programs run by our amazing school staff.
This fundraiser raises a considerable amount of money... north of $80,000!
Casino Information:
Date: Saturday, November 7 and Sunday, November 8
Location: Cowboys Casino (underground parking included)
Times: see this link for the available shifts
The volunteer list needs to be submitted to AGLC by mid-September, so please pick your shift early.
This is a great way to meet other parents in the school and engage in some adult conversation :)
A meal at one of the onsite restaurants is provided for all the volunteers.
If you are concerned about not being familiar with casino activities, we have you covered. AGLC mandates that we hire very knowledgeable advisors that will walk us all through the requirements of each role, both prior to the shift starting and during the entire 2 day event. The only requirement is a valid ID.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Husayn Lalji at husaynlalji@gmail.com
Thank you for your support!
