PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Building a Culture of Belonging
Nuestro/Our Welcome Back Assembly began with a simple but powerful question: “What is my job in this place (Escuela Glenmeadows School) to help others feel that they belong?”
As we begin the school year, we are reminding ourselves that creating a safe, caring, and a welcoming school is something we all contribute to. Our Grade 5 and Grade 6 students shared thoughtful ideas about kindness, inclusion, respect, and looking out for one another. We also talked about how our choices and actions can meaningfully affect how others experience school. While none of us are perfect, we all have opportunities each day to make positive choices, learn from our experiences, and help others feel valued and included.
Cuatro/Four Grade 6 students also helped me create a video about belonging, capturing moments around our school that show what it means to feel connected. When students feel safe, cared for, and connected, they are better prepared to participate, learn, and thrive.
As we move into this new school year, I encourage all of us—students, staff, and families—to consider one question each day:
“What can I do today to help someone else feel that they belong?”
At Escuela Glenmeadows School, we all belong here, and we all have a role in helping one another feel that we belong.
Home STEM Challenge
Al mismo tiempo/At the same assembly, we also got students excited about the Hurricane Defender home challenge. Please take a look at what the Hurricane Defender challenge is all about in this Sabes Que Edition! Our students are eager to work independently, with friends, and/or with family members if this is what families support.
Welcome Back BBQ
Nosotros/We look forward to seeing everyone next Thursday at the Welcome Back BBQ organized by the School Council and Society! The event will be magical for everyone who attends.

SCHOOL UPDATES
MEET THE TEACHER – BOOKINGS
Come meet your teacher on Thursday, Sept 24th from 5pm – 8pm or Friday, Sept 25th from 8am – 12pm. You can book your 10-15 min meeting through your MyCBE account. There are 2 different bookings available depending on the grade your student(s) is in. These meetings are available both online or in person.
The booking portal will open at 7am tomorrow morning (Saturday, Sept 12).
GLENMEADOWS SCHOOL HURRICANE DEFENDER
House design contest! An opportunity to try out your hand at being an amazing engineer!
Build a house with only cardboard – no tape or glue or any other adhesives – and see if it can survive a leaf blower!
CBE CONTINUING EDUCATION FOR PARENTS
Hey parents - are you interested in learning Spanish to you can better support your child in the Spanish Bilingual program? A few options are available through CBE’s Continuing Education Courses from beginner to a refresher course. Here is the website and the course outline.

VOLUNTEERING AT GLENMEADOWS
Annual Volunteer Registration Required for All School Volunteers
To ensure the safety and security of CBE students and staff, all volunteers must register with the school each school year before participating in volunteer activities.
The Annual Volunteer Registration Form is valid for the current school year only. All volunteers, including returning volunteers, must complete a new registration form each school year before participating in volunteer activities.
Parents and guardians can register as volunteers through the SchoolEngage tab in their MyCBE account. As part of the registration process, all volunteers must review the updated Protection of Privacy Act (POPA) requirements and sign to indicate their agreement with the conditions outlined in the form.
New this year: As an additional requirement under the new POPA legislation, community members who are not parents/guardians of a child registered with CBE must complete their volunteer registration in person at the school they wish to volunteer.

Let’s kick off the year with food, fun, and community spirit.
Enjoy a delicious meal from JRRR BBQ. Order through Healthy Hunger by September 11.
This is a cash-only fundraiser, and proceeds support exciting activities and supplies for our students. Volunteers are essential. Sign up through SignUp. All spots must be filled for the event to run.

🍽️HEALTHY HUNGER WEDNESDAY LUNCHES & SNACKS! 🍽️
Healthy Hunger provides a break for families from making full lunches on Wednesdays, with dedicated snacks or lunches delivered weekly, all the while supporting the school! Our first Healthy hunger lunch is on Wed, Sept 16th with different vendors on each Wednesday after that. Order must be placed before midnight on the Friday before.
SET UP/ORDER FOOD: Create or log in to your account through the Healthy Hunger website.
1. Select Escuela Glenmeadows (note: the list is alphabetical look under 'E' not 'G')
2. Include first name, last name, Escuela Glenmeadows and select grade from the drop down menu.
3. Order from the list of options available for many weeks/months ahead
IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
- Deadline to order is Friday 11:59pm for the following Wednesday
- Kinder students are eligible to order on snack days. Available snack days will populate automatically in the Healthy Hunger order for all kinder students
- Absent Students: If students are absent, food can be picked up SAME DAY. Food will not be kept past end of the day on day of delivery

🎰CASINO VOLUNTEERS NEEDED 🎰
Saturday November 7 & Sunday November 8
Every two years, Escuela Glenmeadows is granted a casino fundraising event. The funds support student programs, including residencies; sports, arts, STEM, and audiovisual equipment; a new gaga ball pit; and much more.
💰 This fundraiser raises more than $80,000 to support enriching opportunities for our students!
📅 Dates: Saturday, November 7 and Sunday, November 8
📍 Location: Cowboys Casino (underground parking included)
⏰ Shifts: See the available shifts and sign up CASINO VOLUNTEERS
⏳ The volunteer list needs to be submitted to AGLC by mid-September, so please pick your shift early.
🤝 This is a great way to meet other EGS parents and enjoy some adult conversation!
🍽️ A meal at one of the onsite restaurants is provided for all volunteers.
✅ No casino experience is required. AGLC-mandated advisors will explain each role before the shift and provide support throughout the two-day event. The only requirement is valid identification.
