SABES QUE Apr 23, 2026

Ayer/Yesterday, our school community came together to celebrate Earth Day in meaningful and memorable ways. In classrooms, students explored the importance of reducing, reusing, recycling, and composting. As a school, we gathered in the gymnasium to read an Indigenous-connected Earth Day book, sing an Indigenous song with drums, and take time to celebrate and honour the Earth that sustains us.

Over the past several days, students have shown a growing commitment to caring for the environment by making thoughtful waste choices. Instead of putting everything in the garbage, they have been increasingly mindful of using our recycling and composting systems. Our Grade 6 students measured waste in its various forms each day, and their data showed a significant reduction in garbage, along with increases in recycling and composting. We are very proud of their efforts and the positive impact they are making. Well done, Escuela Glenmeadows School!

Estudiantes/Students also used their imagination at home to create hats from recycled materials. We look forward to sharing photos of their creative designs on the televisions in our school hallways.

After the assembly, grade buddies walked together to Turtle Hill in friendship, where they enjoyed a nature walk and supported one another through journaling and sketching inspired by the natural world. On the walk to and from Turtle Hill, interested students were provided with gloves and garbage bags to help pick up litter as an act of care for our community. In recognition of their kindness and initiative, these students also received a complimentary pass to a City of Calgary swimming pool.

We are also very grateful to our School Society for purchasing a Sea Can container to store large, heavy P.E. equipment, such as portable basketball hoops. This addition will soon allow us to transform a large storage area into a well-organized second P.E. equipment room. We will be looking for volunteers to help with this move and transformation, and we appreciate your support.

Today, we received our school budget. School administration will now take time to carefully review the implications of the new budget and present staff with possible options. We will also bring this information to the School Council and, if needed, to the families who may be affected.

Thank you to our students, staff, and families for continuing to make our school community such a thoughtful, caring, and engaged place to learn.
