SABES QUE FEB 27, 2026
Ayer/Yesterday, students were excited to showcase their Latin dances for their families. They were successful and proud of themselves and their classmates. The great music, lights and show atmosphere gave them the opportunity be stars at Escuela Glenmeadows School. Dance offers significant benefits for children by enhancing physical health, cognitive abilities, and emotional well-being. Key advantages include improved coordination, strength, and cardiovascular fitness, as well as boosted self-confidence, creativity, and social skills such as teamwork. It also fosters discipline, memory, and cognitive development through learning routines and spatial awareness. We thank our school Society and Council for fully funding this great experience through Havana Dance Company. The great attendance from families certainly made this event even more important and valuable for all students!
Para/For the last concert of the day, we are very grateful to the parents who waited at the end of the show to retrieve their children through the designated outside doors. As you know, the safety of children and the organization of these events requires order to prevent chaos and upset children and families. We continue to remind parents to:
- Wait at their children’s designated outdoor doors after performances
- Please do not wander the hallways or go to children’s classrooms.
- Do not attempt to get your child(ren) from the gym, but rather allow the children to return to their classroom with their teacher and classmates
- Remain in the gym until the last performance is finished and do not get your child(ren) from their classroom early. Performance audience etiquette makes the event a wonderful celebration for all.
Juntos/Together, we can support a safe, smooth transition for students, families, and teachers and help ensure the event is successful in every way.
Next week, our school will undergo an Alberta Government Health and Safety audit. Twenty-two schools were randomly selected for this year, and we are one of them. Health and Safety for our students, all adults, and the building requires attention to the following policies, with all documentation proving that the school and its policies ensure everyone is safe at school. To this end, I wish to remind families that when students are late, particularly during inclement weather (minus 20 and below), to use the main front doors by pressing the office buzzer. Please note that supervision ends at 9:15 am, and we need all students to be indoors and safe while learning.
Hoy/Today, we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Spanish Bilingual program. At Crescent Heights High School, all staff from Spanish bilingual schools will gather for a celebratory event to recognize the accomplishments of this amazing bilingual program. In attendance, we will have our Chief Superintendent, Joe Pitman, who will offer words of gratitude to staff involved in these 25 great years of learning Spanish and Culture.
Mientras/While at school today, our teachers learned new strategies for English as an additional language students. We also reviewed our next gymnastics unit and set up all the mats for students to exercise, learn new skills, and stay safe. Students will certainly enjoy the fun and challenging experiences provided.
Tengan un lindo fin de semana!

SCHOOL UPDATES
NUTS AT SCHOOL
Glenmeadows is a nut-aware school! What does that mean?
A "nut-aware" school is an institution that acknowledges the presence of severe, life-threatening nut allergies among its student body and takes proactive measures to minimize risk, such as banning or discouraging nuts in lunches. Unlike a strictly "nut-free" school, a nut-aware school may not guarantee a completely nut-free environment but focuses on education, preventing cross-contamination, and strict handwashing protocols.
Key Aspects of a Nut-Aware School:
- Preventative Approach: Policies strongly encourage or mandate that parents do not send nuts or nut-based products (peanut butter, Nutella, etc.) to school.
- Safety Protocols: Schools emphasize handwashing before and after eating, and they strictly forbid sharing food among students.
- Education and Awareness: Staff are trained on how to recognize anaphylaxis and properly use tools like epinephrine auto-injectors (EpiPens).
- Risk Management: While they cannot guarantee a total ban, they focus on reducing exposure by creating "safe zones," such as nut-free tables in the cafeteria.
- Commonly Prohibited Items: Peanut butter, nuts, and items with "may contain traces of nuts" labelling are often restricted.
Glenmeadows does have a few students with severe life-threatening allergies at school. As students touch various surfaces at the school, we ask that you please not send foods containing nuts.
We appreciate your help and support with this.
PINK SHIRT DAY
It was wonderful to see so many students and staff sporting their pink shirts, hoodies, dresses, bandanas, etc. for pink shirt day last Wednesday. As a school activity, we had students write messages of inclusion and kindness which staff then created this beautiful wall art with.
