SABES QUE Mar 6, 2026

La seguridad/The safety and security of students and all adults in the school is paramount to our school. Escuela Glenmeadows underwent a Provincial Health and Safety audit this past Wednesday.  Twenty-two Calgary Board of Education schools were chosen randomly to take part in this very complex and detailed process.  As Principal, I am proud to share the words of the auditor, “This is the first school for which I have not noted any deficiencies in”.  Wow, that is yet another amazing achievement to be proud of as a school!

El auditor/The auditor looked some of the following documents.

  • 2025/26 School Emergency Plan
  • Various CBE past school inspections
  • Safe Work Practices documentation
  • Annual Summary Reports which show that all staff have taken all AH&S online courses
  • Fire drill and Lockdown to date and scheduled
  • OH&S Staff Meetings
  • OH&S News Letters
  • Accident Reports (students and Adults)
  • All safety report such as Playground, Canadian Climber and more
  • Classroom Inspection reports
  • All required posters and information regarding OH&S in key school areas

The auditor looked at all classrooms, storage areas, basement and mechanical rooms.  Last but not least, the auditor interviewed 5 staff members regarding processes and policies related to Health and Safety.  As the auditor walked the hallways, he was impressed of how students maintained the hallway floor cleared of boots/shoes and clothing articles.  The classrooms were organized, safe and welcoming!

Deseo/I wish to thank all staff, students and parents for keeping everyone safe at school by following school health and safety protocols each day!  We’re all in this together! Estamos Unidos!

Staff are engaged in various activities coming soon.  Some include:

  • Fieldtrips
  • Swim Program
  • Talent Show
  • Grade 6 Outdoor Camp
  • Que Pasa (Grade 5/6)
  • Dia del Libro and many more!

Nuestros/Our teachers are invested in providing high quality education together with fun and exciting opportunities!

En/At Glenmeadows School, we have been capped to three classes of 25 students for kindergarten and grade 1 for next school year.  As a result of additional registrations, in February, we reached this cap.

With gratitude,

Ray Suarez

Principal

SCHOOL UPDATES

NEXT YEAR ENROLLMENT REMINDER

Registrations for the 2026-2027 school year are well underway. It is very helpful for us to have as current information as possible when dealing with registrations.  If you’re child(ren) will not be returning to Glenmeadows next year, please let Sra. Alanis in the office know, she will also help you with transfer forms if needed.  algreenberg@cbe.ab.ca

We appreciate your help with keeping us updated.

SWIM PROGRAM

We are excited to announce all students in grades 1-6 will have the opportunity to participate in swimming lessons in the month of April!  More information will start coming home next week with information on schedules, cost and volunteer opportunities.  Volunteers must have a valid police clearance – you can check in at the office to see if yours is up to date. We are always in need for male volunteers with the swimming program.

NATIONAL FOOD PROGRAM

The Government of Alberta is using federal funds from the National Food Program Agreement to enhance and expand school food programs across the province.  Glenmeadows has received $3,200 of this funding, which will allow us to support families with food insecurities at the school.  If you feel your student(s) would benefit from this program, please send and email to Ray Suarez (resuarez@cbe.ab.ca) to discuss.

WARM WEATHER AND WET CONDITIONS

It's that time of year when one day its snowy & cold and the next day, blue skies and warm - which means our field and playgrounds can get wet and muddy quickly. You might consider for the next little bit of sending in an extra pair of clothes for your student(s) incase they accidentally slip and fall in the mud.

PARENT ENGAGEMENT NIGHT - THANK YOU

Thank you so much to all the parents who came out to the Parent Engagement Night last night. We know evenings are busy and truly appreciate you taking the time to be there.

We learned so much from Dr. Caroline and her thoughtful insights into anxiety and parenting. Her perspective gave us all a lot to reflect on and some really valuable tools to support our kids.

Thank you again for being part of such a meaningful evening and for the care and commitment you show to our school community. If you weren’t able to make this one we hope to see you next year or at one of the upcoming coucil and society meetings.
