SABES QUE May 15, 2026
Esta semana / This week was certainly a busy, meaningful, and exciting one for our students, staff, administration, and families.
El lunes / On Monday, we had the honour of welcoming City of Calgary Mayor Jeromy Farkas to our school. Mayor Farkas spoke with students about his role in leading our city and helping make important decisions for Calgarians. Our students were very engaged and appreciated how kind, approachable, and down-to-earth he was. Students from Kindergarten to Grade 6 had the opportunity to ask thoughtful and creative questions. One Grade 5 student asked, “Why do the main water pipes keep bursting?” while one of our Kindergarten students asked, “Are you the King of Calgary?” It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn more about municipal government in a real and memorable way.
El martes / On Tuesday, our Grade 5/6 students represented Escuela Glenmeadows School with tremendous pride at the Qué Pasa interschool fine arts gala. They shared their enthusiasm, talent, and energy through singing, dancing, and playing Orff instruments. We are so proud of the way they performed and represented our school community. A heartfelt thank you to Sr. Casas and our Grade 5/6 teachers for preparing and supporting students so they could shine. We also extend a huge thank you to our parent volunteers, who supported us throughout the day. You all rock!
El miércoles / On Wednesday, we held an engagement meeting with our current Grade 4/5 families to hear their thoughts, questions, and considerations about the possibility of continuing with a combined Grade 5/6 class structure. Eleven family members attended and generously shared their ideas and feedback. Thank you to our families for your important voice and thoughtful contributions.
Yesterday, students in Grades 4, 5, and 6 also participated in a survey on possible class structure options, including a combined Grade 5/6 class. We will share the results next week. In addition, we met with our Grade 4, 5, and 6 teachers yesterday, and this morning we met with our full staff to share, reflect on, and consider both parent and student voice. Next Wednesday, I will meet with our administrative team to reflect further and determine the best possible structure to support our students and our school. We will share our school’s decision toward the end of next week.
Today, during our professional development day, staff reviewed the new Social Studies curriculum, Individualized Program Plans, second-language assessments, and prepared for June report cards.
Ahora / Now that the weather is nicer, we kindly remind families that dogs are not permitted on school grounds. This includes the front of the school and the school parking lot. We also continue to receive concerns from families about motorists making illegal U-turns, using the staff parking lot, and driving through the back alley for student drop-off. For the safety of all children, we ask everyone to follow the City of Calgary bylaws and drive responsibly. We are all here for our children and students, and their safety must remain our shared priority.
Tengan un lindo fin de semana largo. / Have a wonderful long weekend!
