An Exciting Week Ahead at Our School!

Este lunes/This coming Monday, we will have the honour of welcoming Mayor Jeromy Farkas to our school! The original invitation was for Mayor Farkas to speak with our Grade 5/6 students about democracy, but we know that all of our students will be excited to see and hear from the Mayor of Calgary.  To celebrate this special visit, we will gather for a whole-school assembly at 10:15 a.m. We are truly grateful to Mayor Farkas for taking the time to visit our school, connect with our students, and share more about his important role in our city.

La emocion/The excitement continues next Tuesday, when our Grade 5/6 students will perform at the Qué Pasa Gala. They will join students from 10 other Spanish-bilingual schools to showcase the incredible world of the fine arts, including dance, songs, musical instruments, and much more. We are so proud of our students and cannot wait for them to share their talents!

Tambien nos gustaria/We would also like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to our School Council for purchasing new multi-purpose nets for volleyball, badminton, and pickleball. A huge thank-you also goes to three of our Grade 6 students who helped put the nets together. Our students and staff are already loving how flexible and easy the new equipment is to use.

Finalmente/Finally, a very special thank-you to the 10 amazing parents who helped move the heavy portable basketball hoops we use during our basketball unit. The hoops are now safely stored in the Sea Can recently purchased by our School Society, giving us much more space in our second gym storage room.

¡Muchas gracias, padres! We are so grateful for your support and teamwork.

Tengan un lindo fin de semana/Have a great weekend!

Student Perspective:

On April 28th my 5/6 classmates and I had the great opportunity to go to the 3rd Spanish film festival with many other schools hosted by the amazing high school, Crescent Heights. During the event, there were many films made from grade 5/6 to grade 12 which all had an extraordinary amount of creativity. The films consisted of humor and drama which all turned out great with also being an exciting way to use Spanish speaking skills. At Crescent Heights, they allowed the audience to vote for whichever film you thought was best in each grade according to multiple categories. Glenmeadows school achieved the best grade 5/6 movie award from the film “Las Chicas Epías” Some films featured captivating special effects that made them more interesting. Activities were held during breaks where students could participate for fun and compete for prizes.
